Overview
VISION
A healthier Colorado through informed decisions.

MISSION
To advance the overall health of the people of Colorado by serving as an independent and impartial source of reliable and relevant health-related information for sound decision-making.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • Better health policy decision-making occurs as a result of objective, reliable information, an engaged public, and informed decision-makers.
  • Individuals, organizations, and communities working together are more effective at improving population health and health care delivery in Colorado than fragmented efforts.
  • Those issues that have the greatest potential to positively affect the health of Coloradans will receive the highest priority in research, analysis, and information dissemination.

CORE FUNCTIONS
To fulfill its mission, CHI is pursuing three core functions:

  • Information Clearinghouse — to serve as a centralized information clearinghouse for national, state and local data and related resources. CHI provides technical assistance in the acquisition, assessment, and use of data to inform decision-making related to health and health care.
  • Analysis and Research — to analyze health and health-related policy issues of importance to the state and local communities. Research and analysis are objective, non-partisan, and for the purpose of providing decision-makers with accurate information to help formulate sound policy.
  • Information Dissemination — to communicate to key users the information resources available and the findings of analyses conducted at CHI, with an emphasis on the transformation of data to usable, understandable information for decision-making purpose.

BACKGROUND
The Colorado Health Institute (CHI) was established in 2002 as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation to serve as a comprehensive source of health data resources and policy analysis for policymakers, health planners, the business and nonprofit communities, advocacy and consumer groups, health care providers, foundations, and the media. CHI was created through a Memorandum of Understanding between three conversion foundations: Caring for Colorado, The Colorado Trust, and Rose Community Foundation. etc. etc.
